The problem

Explaining your screen shouldn’t be this hard.

Whether you’re presenting, teaching or helping a teammate, pointing with a cursor only gets you so far.

  1. People lose your cursor.

A small arrow is easy to miss on a shared screen, so “this one, here” lands on no one.

  2. Screenshot tools work backwards.

Capture first, then open an editor, find the pen, export, paste. By the time it’s sent, the conversation has moved on.

  3. Most tools get in the way.

Extra windows, stolen focus, and ink that stays behind after you’re done.

How it works

Press a shortcut. Draw.
Press esc.

Lasso puts a transparent canvas over everything on your Mac — only while you need it.

  1. Start drawing

Over any app, on any display.

  2. Make your point

Circle, highlight, point or number what matters.

  3. Done

Your drawing disappears and your screen is back to normal.

Great for

Showing people exactly what you mean.
Agents, too.

A circle on the screen says more than a paragraph of directions — whoever, or whatever, is on the other end.

On it.

With a colleague or friend

Send the shot, not the essay.

Mark the exact spot, press S, and drop it in Slack or Messages. “The second one in the list, the one that says…” becomes a circle. No app on their end? Send a link.

Screenshots

Draw first. Then screenshot.

Mark up your live screen and press S. The shot waits in the corner with every circle, arrow and highlight: drag it into a chat, copy it, or save it where you want.

Want to trim it? Click the shot to crop it or add more. The toolbar never shows up in the shot — just your screen and your drawing.

Share a link

Send a link. It opens anywhere.

Hover a screenshot and click the link button, or Share Link in the editor. Anyone can open it in a browser for 24 hours — no account, no app. It’s encrypted on your Mac before it’s uploaded, and the key lives only in the link, so not even Lasso can see it.

What is Lasso?

A free screen annotation app for Mac. Press ⌥⇧A and a transparent canvas covers your screen: circle, highlight, point at and number things in any app while you present, teach or share your screen. Press esc and it’s gone.

Is it really free?

Yes. Download it, drag it to Applications, done. No account, no trial, no card.

Will it run on my Mac?

Any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon or Intel. The Liquid Glass toolbar needs macOS 26; everything else is the same on macOS 14 and 15.

Will people on my call see what I draw?

Yes. Lasso draws on your screen itself, so your marks show up in Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and screen recordings — share your whole screen rather than a single window. Nothing to install on their side.

Can AI agents like Claude Code use it?

Yes. Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and other agents on your Mac connect to Lasso over MCP to see your screen with your drawing on it, read the screenshots you take, and draw arrows, highlights and numbered steps to show you where to click. When an agent needs you to decide something, it writes the question right on the window it's about, and you answer by clicking a number, typing a reply, or drawing. Press V while drawing and you can talk it through instead: say what you mean as you circle things, and Lasso hands the agent your words with each mark placed where you said “this”. Lasso asks before an agent’s first call, and the connection never leaves your Mac. Settings → Agents has the setup to copy.

Can I use it as a whiteboard?

Yes. Swipe to a whiteboard or blackboard page that goes on forever: scroll with two fingers to move around, pinch to zoom, ⇧1 to fit everything in view. Swipe back and your screen and drawing are still there.

Is it safe to install?

Lasso is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app — no warnings, no workarounds.

Does it need any permissions?

Drawing needs none. Screenshots read the pixels on your screen, so the first one asks for Screen Recording. Talking a brief through for your agent asks for the Microphone and Speech Recognition — your voice is turned into text on your Mac and never sent anywhere. You can skip any of them and keep drawing.

Where do my screenshots go?

Nowhere until you say so. Each one waits in a small stack in the corner: copy it, drag it into another app, or save it to the folder you pick. Share a link and it’s encrypted on your Mac first, so only people with the link can open it — for 24 hours.

How do I uninstall it?

Quit Lasso from the menu bar, then drag it from Applications to the Trash. That’s all of it.
